Our Mission
As a mission of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, SMEDS believes that every child is made in the image of God. As such, we strive to honor each child’s innate dignity. We do this by cultivating an environment that prioritizes curiosity, wonder, and unabashed joy.
Our Philosophy
Our educational philosophy is inspired by the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy and rooted in a strong image of the child as capable, curious, and active participant in their own learning. We view educators as researchers who listen deeply, observe, and learn alongside children, creating opportunities for children to represent their thinking through the many languages of learning and expression. We believe learning emerges through relationships, meaningful encounters, and environments that invite curiosity, inquiry, and discovery.
